How to Use Resistance Bands

!±8± How to Use Resistance Bands

Learning how to use resistance bands is something that many people are interested in doing. Resistance tubes and bands are lightweight and very easy to store. They are easily taken when you travel to help you workout no matter where you are.

How do resistance bands work?
Exercise bands and tubes are made out of elastic. As you stretch out the bands, you will be met with more resistance the farther you stretch them. This resistance allows you to safely tone your muscles. Because the resistance can be applied in any direction whether up or down, you do not need to rely on gravity like with free weights.

An example of how this principle works can seen with a rubber band. Take the rubber band with both hands. If you keep one hand stationary while the other pulls away you will feel the resistance being applied. Try moving your hand away to the side, diagonal, up, down, or any other direction and you will still feel resistance. As your hands move farther apart, your muscles have to work harder to maintain their distance. This is how the resistance tubing and bands work, only on a larger scale.

Who can use resistance bands and tubes?
Resistance tubes and bands can be used by any age group from kindergarten to a senior citizen it really does not matter. Exercise bands and tubes are also great for any type of lifestyle whether you are heavily involved in sports or retired and want to get into shape. The exercise bands are easy on the joints and allow for a smoother movement.

Are resistance tubes and bands safe?
Resistance tubes and bands are safe to use. There are a couple things to consider with resistance tubes. First, each color means a certain resistance level. Because of this you do not want to buy a resistance band or tube solely based on the color. You must shop by resistance level rather than the color. Second, as you are working out keep in mind that the resistance bands and tubes act as a rubber band, meaning they want to snap back into their original form. Never let go of a resistance band or tube while it is stretched as this could cause injury.

How do I use resistance bands?
Resistance tubes and bands can be used the same way you use weights. Because there must be resistance for the bands to work, you must step on or attach one end to a stationary object. For example, to do curls you simply step on one end of the exercise band and hold the other end in your hand making sure there is no slack in the tube when your arm is relaxed. As you slowly curl your arm upwards, you will feel the resistance causing your muscles to work harder.

You can apply the same principle to just about any exercise. Resistance bands are truly the universal exercise equipment and a must have for everyone.

When is it Time to Replace Your Old Trampoline Mat?

!±8± When is it Time to Replace Your Old Trampoline Mat?

If you find that your mat is losing its stitching or the rings are coming off, then you must replace your trampoline mat. General wear will affect the quality of jumps and safety for you and the user. Sometimes you will find that the mat is referred to as a trampoline jumping bed or trampoline bed. Make sure that the mat is made of PermatronTM. PermatronTM is the safest material for trampoline mats in the consumer recreational trampoline market. Competitive and Olympic trampolines use a special mat that are made of extra strong fabrics. While you might be tempted to go get yourself a real Olympic trampoline, watch a video of it in action on the internet and ask yourself if you really want to be flung into the air that high. That is strictly for professionals.

When selecting your next trampoline mat, make sure to measure your old one. It is best to measure the mat with a measuring tape and to use the ring and directly opposite ring as guides. Measure starting from the edge of the trampoline mat to the opposite edge. Measure from more than one location to get accurate results. It is easiest to measure the mat when it is still attached to the trampoline. Then count the number of rings that attach to the spring. If you order with these two pieces of information, you can be more sure that you will get the correct and compatible part. If your trampoline mat gets wet, do not use the trampoline until it has been properly dried off. It is best to dry off the trampoline before the sun hits avoiding enhanced UV damage. You can keep all your trampoline parts in top shape by maintaining it well to ensure safety and fun for all users.

Stay with the basics. Pick a trampoline that follows the most common time tested functionality. Keep in mind that trampolines with enclosure poles that go through the frame cannot use universal pads and must use special pads. This can increase the cost of your ownership during the trampoline's lifetime.

Keep in mind that you will have to replace parts on the trampoline every now and then. You must keep it well maintained to help guarantee maximum safety for the jumper. Keep your trampoline well maintained and jumpers will jump more often and safely.

Strength Training Equipment - An Overview of the Main Types

!±8± Strength Training Equipment - An Overview of the Main Types

Getting in shape is not an easy task without the proper strength training equipment. Still, if you are serious about your training and work out regularly, you will get the desired results relatively quickly. It is definitely a good idea to install strength training equipment in your home rather than go to the gym every other day. It is not particularly expensive to set a home gym. You simply have to have the most essential pieces of fitness equipment.

You cannot exercise effectively unless you have some weight or strength equipment in your home gym. You can readily opt for some traditional dumbbells. Still, you should definitely consider rubber hex dumbbells as well. These are easier to use and to store. They are more durable also.

Irrespective of your choice, you should have dumbbells of different size for effective exercising. You will certainly be able to make the most out of your workout with 5, 8 and 12 lb weights. You should also get a barbell set suitable for your capabilities. Regardless any strength training equipment, even weight lifting equipment is perfect to achieve your fitness goals faster.

A weight bench is the most essential piece of weight equipment. It will allow you to exercise your arms, shoulders, back and abs effectively. You are highly recommended to opt for an adjustable bench that you can set in different positions. It is worth paying slightly more for being able to exercise more muscle groups more effectively.

Once you have the essentials, you can opt for strength training equipment that will make your workout more complete. The leg press, also known as hip sped is great for exercising your legs. You can get a slat machine for working your back and shoulder muscles more effectively and for building core strength. The squat machine is a more universal choice, however, given the fact that you can do a wider range of exercises with it. Generally, it is up to you to decide on the pieces of strength training equipment you will use at home.

Inversion Boards - 3 Fears Preventing You From Using A Gravity Inversion Table

!±8± Inversion Boards - 3 Fears Preventing You From Using A Gravity Inversion Table

Inversion boards, once highly popular in the 1980's and then nearly disappearing from the health and fitness scene in the subsequent decades, are gaining popularity today at a rapid pace as inversion therapy devices.

The medical community that is still divided in their opinion whether inversion boards and similar inversion equipment will provide benefit when it comes to back or neck pain.

However, the testimonials of hundreds of people who have used inversion boards, gravity inversion table, or similar inversion systems, are highly positive of the benefits of inverting your body and experience spinal decompression, as well as induce a completely unusual muscle tension in your back muscles.

People have reported reduction or disappearance of back pain, stress relief, cessation of joints popping, and of course the common benefits of exercise, such as increased abdominal muscles (six pack abs), improved posture, and more.

If the thought of being inverted is inducing fear in you, you are not alone. We will touch on three common fears that are actually preventing people with back pain, or other ailments, from using an inversion board and from giving themselves a chance at feeling better temporarily or even healing completely.

When you are done reading, even if you still won't be ready to get on an inversion board, you at least will know what fear is stopping you from getting the benefits! The three fears are: The fear of falling down, the fear of getting dizzy, and the fear of the inversion not working for you. Let's see how you can conquer these.

Fear of falling down

This fear probably comes from the fact that, when inverted and locked in the position at your ankles, you don't really have that much control over your motions, and, on top of that, you are hanging freely in the air. That fear is to some extent justified as some gravity inversion table manufacturers even quite recently had to recall their tables due to manufacturing failure that caused falls and injuries in several people.

To conquer this fear, you need to make sure that you are purchasing the inversion board from a reputable manufacturer with good feedback on specialized online sites. Also, when you receive the board, test visually the components and contact the company if you could not completely follow the assembly directions in the assembly manual.

When getting on the table, always start with the minimal, 15 to 30 degree inversion, and only increase it as you continue your inspections and as you feel better about your new inversion exercise.

Fear of getting dizzy

Some people feel that they might get dizzy when in an inverted position, or they feel that inversion will in some other way interfere with their health. It is quite possible, in fact, using the inversion system is contra indicated for a dozen or so of the medical conditions. So if you have a medical condition, you absolutely want to consult with a medical doctor before climbing on to an inversion table.

Will the gravity inversion table work for me?

That, of course, is an universal fear before any purchase that feels like it can not be reversed. First, check the conditions for the return of the inversion bench. Second, while it is impossible to tell for sure that the gravity inversion table will work for you, it is quite certain that it won't work for you if you don't try it, and if you don't follow the regimen of daily or regular use. It is one of those cases of "you pays your money and you takes your chances". Is reducing your back pain worth taking a chance?

Sparse on Cash and Credit, Fitness Studio Plan

!±8± Sparse on Cash and Credit, Fitness Studio Plan

You want to start your own fitness business, but you are sparse on cash and have limited access to credit. Then this plan is for you. You CAN start your own fitness business with little or no cash or credit.

First, you have to have some certification. If you are not already certified, find out what programs are available in your area, often there are lower cost intensive programs run over several long weekends.

Next, the key to starting your own Personal Training Business is space; you have to find the right location. Let's say you and your brother want to open a business together. You can split the rent and expenses. You can also appeal to your town zoning as a one-on-one training facility. This usually means you will be allocated a minimum number of free parking spaces for your clients; and you would also be eligible for office space rental which is less expensive than retail space. Also be aggressive in negotiating with the landlord. If the space has been vacant for a while, the landlord may be willing to help paint or do other minor upgrades.

Once you have found a suitable space that you can afford, you need equipment. You can purchase very good used equipment that has been rebuilt or never actually been used from the Internet, from fitness stores' floor models, or even from homeowners. Let's say you start out with a treadmill, an elliptical, and a recumbent bike. Add to those two benches that incline and decline, a free standing rack to hold Olympic bars, weight plates, dumbbells, exercise balls, bands, etc. As your business builds and you start to make some extra money beyond your monthly rental fee and expenses, you can add to this equipment. You will have a better sense of what your clientele base is interested in and what type of equipment you think will help them with their program goals. There is some great universal corporate equipment that is reasonably priced and will save space while still allowing you to provide your clients a great workout. In general it is a good idea not to overcrowd your studio or fitness center with equipment placed too close together.

Now comes the real catch--advertising. Advertising can make or break a new business. You really need to advertise, but it costs big bucks! Therefore, you have to get creative. Find on-line programs or local businesses which will create your own business cards and brochures. On-line programs often have very good free logo material to create a "signature look" for your business. Later, you may wish to use professional art design, but this expense is not necessary initially. Also, be your own promotional agent by writing articles about your business and submit them to local newspapers. Try to focus on what is new or different about your approach or business (such as special introductory pricing packages). Send the editor a catchy note about yourself and your business and ask if they will write an article and perhaps come to your place of business and take photographs. Place your business cards in diners or local businesses; often there is a special location for cards or even brochures. Otherwise, introduce yourself and ask for support; in return offer to take their cards or information and support them.

It is extremely important to manage your cash flow and expenses from the very beginning. Get Quick Books and log in daily, it does not take much time at all and you will save on accounting expense. Do not lease any equipment when you first start; it is another big bill added to your rent. Also set up packages of training sessions for clients to purchase for which they must pay upfront. This will get your cash flowing to make your monthly rental payments. Be sure to have a cancellation policy and do not be afraid to charge for repeat last minute cancellations. You are a professional, your time is money. A canceled client is a slot of time that could have produced money if you were able to schedule a different client in that now wasted time. Develop a sign-in system or card tracking of clients' remaining sessions. A client will often think they have more sessions remaining than they actually do. You do not want to give extra sessions for free.

Decorate your space; make it inviting and very different from your competitors. You do not have to spend a lot of money to create a restful, yet energetic space. Perhaps you have some items from your own home or look at tag sales and local consignment shops. Try for a uniform color or design approach. Keep it simple, but make a unique statement. Maybe you can tie your business logo into your decorating theme.

A number of personal trainers have started this way--on a small scale and not getting in over their heads in the very beginning. Now these people have been in business for 10 to 20 years and have some of the best state-of-the-art facilities. Pace yourself, keep your money close to the vest, be patient, and watch your business grow. You will probably get lots of outside advice and people trying to sell you things. Do not be tempted to bring in new things until your core business is supporting your rent. And advice from others is often from people who have never put their own money at risk or who have never run a business themselves, so be true to yourself. With hard work and disciplined guidelines, your business will flourish.

Fold Up Bikes - Practical and Environmentally Friendly But Are They Cool?

!±8± Fold Up Bikes - Practical and Environmentally Friendly But Are They Cool?

For those of you who would like to be able to cycle to work, or anywhere you want to get to, without the worry of where to leave your bike safely, or for people who wish to have a mode of exercise and transport that is easy to store at home, then getting one of the various designs of fold up bikes could be the solution. But there's no need to worry, as fold up bikes are no longer "uncool" or geeky!

As the summer approaches with hotter days and lighter evenings, our thoughts quickly turn to the outdoors and ways to spend as much time outside as possible. Most of us also start to worry about our physiques in preparation for our new summer wardrobes, so exercise and diet become a priority.

Cycling is an excellent way to exercise outside, as well as a useful mode of environmentally friendly transport. However, plans of cycling everywhere possible are sometimes scrapped due to the difficulty of where to leave your bike on arrival. This is where fold up bikes have the advantage over conventional non-folding bikes.

The issue of storage with fold up bikes isn't a problem at all as you can just fold it up and take it inside with you. Riders of fold up bikes don't need to fret about finding a suitable space to leave their bike, or about the security of leaving it outdoors unguarded. All they have to do instead is fold their collapsible bike up into its compact form and take it with them, without any storage or security worries.

Makers of fold up bikes have recently started to combat the tag of "uncool" that has previously been given to the product. So there are now plenty of new designs available from leading brands, all offering a selection of designs and colours to suit many tastes.

The prize winning Go Bike from Quebec in Canada is the ideal example of the new "cool" style of fold up bikes. It is available in five cool colours - blue, green, orange, Lumi blue and Anthracite - and it incorporates leading technological design features to guarantee a practical yet innovative bike.

The Go Bike has a universal, one-size-fits-all design, with a telescopic seat post and adjustable stem to suit riders of every age and sex from 4ft7" (1.40 m) up to 6ft3" (1.9m), and a maximum weight of 110kg (245lbs). It is easy to carry and to store, with a lightweight aluminum frame and fork construction. It has ultra sturdy textured silver anodized finish on the stem, and both the rear and front forks, and it looks uber cool.

Since their initial design fold up bikes have come a very long way and now use innovative and funky designs and trendy colours alongside their original practical usage and storage advantages. Fold up bikes are now a credible alternative to conventional bikes with the benefits of being able to take them anywhere and store them safely.
